Weather Data exchange July 2008
July Weather Data from Bill Arthur, South Perth County
Average rainfall and HU for July.
Only 1 day with 30 degrees and several cool nights so was surprised to make average.
Still behind for the year to date HU.
Recorded rain on 13 days, the most on July 30 with 19mm.
As Peter says rainfall recording is only good to 10 metres from gauge.
July 24 we got a sprinkle, I did not even record it as a "trace".
Hensall to the west of me reports 60+mm and Woodstock to the east reports are up to 100mm.
Again on July 30 I recorded 19mm and St Marys, 8kms away recorded 48.
Most wheat is off around here. Good yields and some minor quality problems. Both Huron county and Oxford, either side of me, have a different story. Lots of sprouting there.
Hay is an ongoing battle, some first cut has just been cleaned up recently and where they started is big enough to start 2nd cut.
Beans and corn both look good but the first evidence of weed escapes are starting to show above some soy fields, that will leave more to come no doubt.

Peter Stewart July Weather Stats for S. E. Northumberland County
COMMENTS: Disclaimer: The rainfall totals are only valid to within 10 m of the guage. Very variable and spotty rainfall, but everyone has enough. Most are lamenting that it must be the wettest July in memory. Obviously, memories are very short. One thing for sure is the consistency of poor harvest weather. Second cut hay has has been a disaster. Some beef guys and gals are still trying to get the 1st cut off. Locally the combines sat idle until Monday the 28th and then started again today. I have not heard any harvest results.
We did not record any 30 degree temperatures for the month. However heat unit totals for the year are only about 100 behind average and that occurred in May.
Corn and beans look very good. Hay regrowth is exceptional if you can harvest it.
