September Weather Data from Bill Arthur, South Perth County
We are still dry with about 60% of my average year to date rain.
Every month has been drier than average except August which managed to get 5mm more than average.
Edible beans are all off and ALL planted to wheat I think. Soys are better than 50% done but many
waiting for green beans to dry down before doing the rest. Yields are 50-75% of normal so far.
Lots of wheat planted, some of it has been in 4 weeks now and looks like a lawn.
Most of Sept rain came from 9-15th and made silage harvest ‘greasy’.
Corn harvest will begin soon. Rumours of some off at 26%, hand picked tests locally show 26-33%.
Yield is unknown but we all hope the rain in August came soon enough to get close to average, time will tell.

29 mm of rain on the 26th relieved a lot of pressure but we need more.
Beans have been coming off and wheat going in. Yields have been
disappointing depending on where the rain was, but some reports of 21 to
28 bu/ac. Spraying has been at a standstill because of the droughty conditions.
